About these numbers

What counts as a new pool? A permit for a new in-ground pool on a single-family home or duplex, read from the permit's type and description. Spas, remodels, resurfacing and above-ground pools are counted separately. Condo, HOA and commercial pools are left out.

When does a new pool need service? Weeks after the permit is filed, once the pool passes final inspection and is filled. That's when the homeowner picks a weekly pool service, and when the builder stops looking after it.

Where does this come from? Public building permits from City of Miami, refreshed every weekday.
